Thousands of Police Officers Turn Their Backs on De Blasio
NYPD Shooting: Police Turn Their Back On NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio
The execution style shooting of two
NYPD police officers has shaken the fragile situation in New York City,
where Mayor Bill de Blasio is attempting to get a handle of the events.
On Saturday night, two NYPD police officers, identified as Wenjin Liu and Raphael Ramos were shot “execution style,” in broad daylight in Brooklyn, according to authorities. The shooter was identified as 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley by NYPD Police Commissioner Bill Bratton.
Additionally, embattled Mayor Bill de Blasio is attempting to bring the situation under control. The city has seen weeks of disruptions in the form of mostly peaceful protests, following the controversial grand jury decision not to indict a white NYPD officer for the death of Eric Garner — who was black — back in July.
In a video, officer Daniel Pantaleo is seen applying a chokehold on Garner — which is not allowed by the NYPD — which results in the death of the man. However, it is also clear that Garner was resisting arrest and police commands at the time. The grand jury decision has created much controversy and sparked protests not only in New York City, but around the nation and also in some countries abroad.
Following the grand jury decision, de Blasio seemed to throw the NYPD under the bus, when he appeared to take the side of the protesters. Now, the mayor is in hot water and cops in his city are turning against him.
According to a report on Pix11, when de Blasio walked into a press conference about the NYPD shooting, officers turned their back on him. De Blasio walked through the officers on his way to answer reporters questions with Police Commissioner Bill Bratton at Woodhull Hospital.
Later on de Blasio took to Twitter to post this statement and didn’t fare any better with users, who are slamming the official.

When police officers are murdered, it tears at the foundation of our society. This heinous attack was an attack on our entire city.
